Congratulations! Newton AP Player of the Year!

Congratulations to Cam Newton on his being named the Associated Press's Player of the Year!

According to al.com, Cam received 51 out of the possible 60 votes for this award. The report also noted the various honors Cam has received for his performance this season:

A Paw on the Media: BCS "Moral Victory" Championship Edition

On OregonLive.com, it appears at least one Duck fan is preparing for a BCS "Moral Victory" speech (see the original comment in context here):

Given the talent on the Oregon team, it seems a bit early for their own fans to be selecting consolation prizes. But given the talent of the Tigers, select away, Ducks!

"builderdude" seems to be keenly aware of something that "duckuniverse" has no knowledge: the Loveliest Village on the Plains!

Leonard's Losers - BCS Championship Game Edition

Magic 8 Balls are in short supply on the campus of Oregon this Christmas.

The Ducks are paddling around their pond looking for a way to peck the Heisman Wise Man from The Plains.

The good people of the Beaver State are predicting a shootout but they forgot that ducks scatter at gunshots and that Auburn has more than one bullet in its gun.

The feline instinct will drive the Tigers to pounce on the yellow and green waddlers.

Leonard's Loser: Oregon.

A Paw on the Media: Congressional Attention Focused on Cam Newton

al.com reports that Congressman Mike Rogers has introduced a resolution in Congress to commend Cam Newton for being the "most outstanding college football player in the United States". Rogers represents the third congressional district which includes Auburn and Auburn University.

The entire congressional delegation from Alabama has signed on as cosponsors, as well as Congressman (and Alabama native) John Lewis of Georgia.

Cam Newton gets the lowdown from Nick Fairley

As reported on al.com, two of our Tigers - Cam Newton and Nick Fairley - have been named to the AP All-American Team!

Auburn is one of five teams that have two players named to the AP team.

The AP noted:

Newton, in his first season with the Tigers after transferring from junior college, became the first quarterback in Southeastern Conference history to reach 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in the same season. He also accounted for 49 touchdowns (28 passing, 20 rushing and one receiving).
The 295-pound Fairley led Auburn with 10½ sacks and 21 tackles for loss, blossoming into one of the best defensive tackles into the country after starting just two games in 2009.

Congratulations to these two outstanding players!

Congratulations to Cam Newton - Auburn's 3rd Heisman!

Cam Newton has had a wonderful run in college football. He helped Blinn College's football team attain a junior college national title last year. Now, as the Tiger's quarterback, he is leading Auburn's team into the BCS National Champsionship game.

Cam's performance on the field as an athlete has been exemplary and now he has been awarded a Heisman Trophy (along with a number of other awards) as recognition for his accomplishments.

Cam is the third Auburn Tiger to receive a Heisman.

Congratulations to Cam on this honor!

Now on to Glendale, Arizona, to meet the Ducks and put the icing on this cake of a season!

A Paw on the Media: College Football Awards

Congratulations to Auburn's Home Depot College Football Award winners!

Cam Newton was awarded the Davey O'Brien Award for the nation's most outstanding quarterback; the Walter Camp Award for the best player in college football; and the Maxwell Award for the nation's best player in college football!

Head Coach Gene Chizik was named Coach of the Year!

I was hoping that Nick Fairley would receive the Jim Thorpe Award (most outstanding defensive back) or the Chuck Bednarik Award (nation's defensive player of the year) but those awards went to Patrick Peterson of LSU.

Previously, Nick Fairley had been awarded the 2010 Rotary Lombardi Award for the top college football lineman on either offense or defense.

The Doak Walker Award for the most outstanding running back went to LaMichael James of the University of Oregon. James will be a worthy challenger for the Tigers' defense in the BCS National Championship game.

Next up: the BCS National Championship game against the Oregon Ducks!

Our Tigers and the coaches put together a great game plan and executed it well in the SEC Championship Game yesterday! In the win against South Carolina, Auburn had its best performance of the year and the most complete game of the season!
